Our Therapy Garden…A Growing Asset.
A garden is an excellent teaching tool for children and young adults. We built our Therapy Garden in 2014 with the goal of increasing our client’s access to the benefits of gardening. Incorporating gardening into therapy sessions allows our clients to work towards their goals in a unique and fun way. Digging, planting seeds, watering and harvesting assist in the development of both gross and fine motor skills. The fruit and vegetables we grow can be used in feeding and speech therapy sessions. Our garden also allows us to incorporate environmental education, specifically the benefits of composting, organic growing processes and the promotion of healthy dietary choices. The value of patience and a sense of accomplishment are also added benefits our clients learn from gardening. We plan to expand our garden in Spring of 2017. See below for a list of what we’re growing and some photos of the fun we’re having!
